My inaugural blog

It  is my first blog at 163.com. I blog a lot at various blog sites, but they are all in English. I know a lot of friends who got their own blogs at 163.com. Their blogs are beautiful in designs and interesting in contexts. This is the reason I want to have a blog here.

I was born and raised in Hong Kong (apart from living a few years in Canada and the US). As a Hong Kong Chinese, I am sort of 半桶水. I am half good in Chinese and half good in English or half bad in Chinese and half bad in English. As it is my first blog, I am now writing it in English. I will continue to do so or write in a hybrid of Chinese and English until I feel comfortable to write it entirely in Chinese.  My friends, you may do likewise. You may write in Chinese or English or a hybrid thereof.

I am learning Spanish through such language websites as Italki and LiveMocha. I have a lot of Spanish speaking friends. They are mostly from Spain and South America. They are extremely friendly and eager to learn Chinese. I want to help them. However, my mandarin got a Cantonese accent and my written Chinese, as I said is, 半桶水. I wish my fellow Chinese friends can help them. I don't think it is necessary that they learn Chinese in a traditional way as they would feel it is boring. I think the best way and the fun way is to learn the respective languages by blogging. It is a free style learning. You can help them learn Chinese and they would help you learn English or Spanish. It is for mutual benefit.

These few days Hong Kong is having extremely good weather. It is sunny, dry and breezy and clear blue sky. I went out and walked around the city today. I took the below picture in front of an European restaurant in Wanchai.  The restaurant is formerly a pawn shop built many many years ago. As you can see the name of the restaurant is "The pawn". I think the HK government has done a good job in preserving this building, which is a heritage of the city. Such heritage can rarely be found in Hong Kong as land is such a rare commodity here. If the government were to tear it down, the site could easily fetch millions and millions of dollars. Thumbs up to the HK government.

My friends, please show us pictures of you cities.
